Bhutan claim it to be a begger free nation.
Majority of the foodgrains required for
the nation is produced by itself. Border
states of India is a large market for the
quality products from Bhutan. |

ECONOMY
About 70% of population depends on subsistence
farming and livestock rearing. The cash crops
includes: apple, potatoes, cardamom, oranges,
canned fruit and juice. The food crops includes:
rice, wheat, maize, millet, buckwheat and barley.
Bhutan exports following items to outside countries
such as: forestry product like timber and lemon
grass oil. Cement, calcium carbide, coal and gypsum.

The
country's largest source of earning is the hydroelectric
power. It contributes about 25% of the government
income. Tourism is also the other largest foreign
exchange earner of Bhutan.
Bhutan
unit of currency is Ngultrum (Nu.), which is
at parity with Indian rupee. Tourists are advised
to carry their money in the form of Traveler
cheques and cash for convenience.
