FESTIVALS

"Exotic and colorful festivals are taken place across bhutan from March to december.

Especially the Tanthric festivals are a major tourist attraction. "

The largest annual festival in Bhutan is called "Tsechu", which is an event honoring Guru Padmashambhava (Guru Rimpoche), through religious dances performed by monks as well as lay people. The dates and duration of Tsechu festival vary among districts but they always fall on or around the 10th day of the month in the Bhutanese calendar. It is one of the most exciting experiences that the visitors can have in Bhutan.

Apart from its religious implications, the Tsechu is also an annual social gathering where men, women and children are attired in their best silk and brocade, and intricately woven colorful gho's and kira's.
