  GEOGRAPHY & CLIMATE Bhutan known as Druk-yul nestling in the heart of the great eastern Himalayas, is located between 880 45' and 920 10' longitude south and between 260 40' and 280 15' latitude north.    
         
 

Its elevation ranging from 150 meters above sea level in the south to more than 7,000 meters in the north. Bhutan has population of 0.7 million approximately with 70% of the total population living in cultivation and livestock rearing. The country can be divided into three major geographic zones; the southern foothills and plains with hot and humid climates, the hills and valleys in the inner Himalayas with the moderate rainfall and the greater Himalayas of the north with high mountains covered with snow almost throughout the year.

 
 
     
  Bhutan in the land of complex gorges and valleys, soaring snow peaked mountains and steep slopes, humid jungles and foothills, magnificent lakes and waterfalls, has fast flowing rivers, streams and the richest biodiversity of flora and fauna.
     

CLIMATE
Because of Bhutan's topography, the climate greatly differs from one region to another. Tropical with monsoon season in the southern plains, winter with hot summer in the central valleys and very cold winter and cool summer in the north.

 
 
Bhutan's climate is changeable and unpredictable, not only varying among the various regions, but also varying enormously from day to day or even on the same day.
